Funeral of Wanderson Zamy: A Final Tribute to a Young Man Who Inspired His Generation

Pétion-Ville, Haiti — The funeral of Wanderson Zamy, a 19-year-old basketball player and TikToker, was held today at St. Peter’s Church in Pétion-Ville at 10:30 a.m., according to a statement from Collège Canado-Haïtien, where he was enrolled during the 2024–2025 academic year.
Honoring His Memory
On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the day before the funeral, Collège Canado-Haïtien organized a ceremony of honor where students and teachers gathered to pay tribute to Zamy. Classmates and faculty remembered him as a source of inspiration and a model of determination among his peers.
A Tragic Context
Zamy lost his life on August 18, 2025, after being struck by a bullet during a teachers’ protest outside the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) in Delmas 83.
Since then, the cry of “Justice for Zamy” has echoed across Haiti. Young people, influencers, and citizens have rallied together, holding vigils, lighting candles, singing, and demanding truth and accountability for his death.
Official Response
On August 22, 2025, the MENFP announced disciplinary measures against 15 security agents who were on site during the protest. Authorities confirmed that the agents’ firearms were handed over to the police and judiciary as part of the ongoing investigation.
A Life Cut Short
Known on social media as “WZ12”, Zamy was steadily building his presence on TikTok while pursuing his passion for basketball. Friends, family, and followers saw him as a young man full of potential who left a deep mark on his generation.
