Montréal-Nord, August 21, 2025 — Haitian-Canadian NBA champion Luguentz Dort made a spectacular return to his hometown, bringing the Larry O’Brien Trophy to a joyful celebration in Montréal-Nord. The parade, infused with cultural pride and community spirit, reflected a powerful moment of homecoming and hope.

Parade and Cultural Celebration in Montréal-Nord

Hundreds of fans lined the streets as Dort paraded through his old neighborhood seated atop a vehicle, holding aloft the Larry O’Brien Trophy. Along the route on rue Charleroi, a traditional Haitian rara band led the procession, with cheering crowds joining in spirited celebration toward Parc Pilon. Dort engaged with youth and families, embodying both heroism and humility.

He reflected on the moment poignantly: “Any success I have, I want to share with my people… At the beginning of my career… a lot of Americans didn’t really know where Montreal was. Today, a lot of them do.”  The event also reignited calls for a much‑needed sports centre in Montréal‑Nord, a long‑awaited community investment.

City Hall Honors and Civic Recognition

A day earlier, on August 20, Mayor Valérie Plante hosted Dort at Montréal City Hall, where he signed the esteemed Livre d’Or (Golden Book)—a symbol of civic honor. The mayor praised Dort’s athletic achievements and ongoing community involvement, especially through his Maizon Dort Foundation, improvements to local basketball courts, and pandemic‑era charitable work.
