  • PublishedAugust 26, 2025

Port-au-Prince, August 25, 2025 — A joint overnight operation carried out by the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) and the Haitian National Police (PNH) successfully regained control of the strategic Téléco post, which had been under the control of armed elements linked to the gang led by “Izo2.”

The operation, conducted between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m., resulted in:

  • Heavy losses among gang members
  • Several arrests
  • Seizure of weapons and ammunition
  • Clearing of barricades that had blocked access to Téléco and Kenscoff

Traffic circulation in these areas has now resumed after being obstructed for weeks.

Authorities React

Following the operation, PNH Director General Vladimir Paraison and MSS Commander Godfrey Otunge issued a joint statement:

“The era of impunity for gangs is coming to an end.”

They assured the public that more large-scale operations will be launched in the coming days as Haiti intensifies efforts to dismantle heavily armed groups.

International Dimension

Beyond the battlefield, the MSS faces questions about its leadership structure. The United States is reportedly considering transferring leadership of the MSS to another partner country. The identity of the potential new lead nation has not yet been revealed, but diplomatic sources suggest ongoing negotiations reflect the shifting dynamics of international engagement in Haiti’s security crisis.

Context

  • On August 9, 2025, Haiti declared a three-month state of emergency to curb rampant gang violence.
  • Recent clashes have cost the lives of several police officers in Kenscoff and Liancourt, underscoring the high stakes of ongoing operations.
  • The MSS, composed of multinational forces, has been tasked with supporting Haitian security institutions to stabilize the country and reopen vital routes.

Conclusion

The retaking of the Téléco post represents a symbolic and tactical victory for Haitian authorities and their international allies. However, questions about the future leadership of the MSS and the long-term sustainability of these gains remain critical to Haiti’s broader fight against insecurity.
