The U.S. Department of State has announced a major change for Haitian nationals applying for immigrant visas. Beginning November 1, 2025, all interviews will take place at the U.S. Embassy in Nassau, Bahamas, instead of Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
What Has Changed?
- The U.S. Embassy in Port-au-Prince will no longer process immigrant visas.
- Nassau is now the designated post for Haitian applicants.
- Two in-person visits will be required in the Bahamas:
- Submission of documents and biometrics
- Interview with a U.S. consular officer
- Medical examinations must also be completed in the Bahamas (either in Nassau or Freeport).
Exceptions
Rare exceptions may be granted for urgent humanitarian, diplomatic, or medical reasons.
What This Means for Haitian Families
- Applicants should carefully check their NVC (National Visa Center) emails for interview dates.
- Do not purchase tickets before receiving an official appointment confirmation.
- Follow instructions on the U.S. Embassy Nassau website for next steps.
